Location: Zoellner Arts Center, Lehigh University, Bethlehem PA
Project: Baker Hall Sound Reinforcement System
The Challenge: As part of the Zoellner Arts Center project, Lehigh University planned a nearly 1,000-seat performance hall, suited for concerts and stage productions, ceremonies and lectures. The stage would be modified to accommodate theatrical productions of different sizes and types, shifting from “theatrical” with bare stage to “concert” with an orchestra shell that creates outstanding acoustics within the hall. An audio system was needed that is both adaptable to the widely arrayed needs of the performances, as well as matching the talent level performing on the stage. Lehigh University contacted CSI for consultation.
The CSI Solution: CSI’s engineering team provided an analysis of existing room acoustical parameters and anticipated system performance criteria. Next we provided final design, drawings and installation documentation and cost. As a result, Lehigh University commissioned CSI to provide the audio system.
The Project: CSI completed the project in 2002. Project scope included installation of a custom designed speaker array, microphones, amplifiers, mixing board, infrastructure, equipment rigging, system tuning, testing and operator training.
The Result: True to the design, Baker Hall is an acoustically superior 946-seat performance hall, suited for concerts and stage productions, ceremonies and lectures. Renowned regionally for its standard of excellence, the venue has hosted multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural performers, including the New York Philharmonic, Itzhak Perlman, Garrison Keillor, Chick Corea, Bobby McFerrin, Lily Tomlin, Natalie Cole, Momix and David Parsons Dance. Cellist Yo Yo Ma and guitarist Pat Methany highlight the hall’s 2010-2011schedule.
